Effectively they told me they either didn't give a damn to get to the root of the problem, or that their system doesn't work and requires a wrench. After getting it back the 2nd time they told me that they duplicated the issue, but rather than try to determine if it was the adapter or brakes that were possibly machined wrong and allowing the can to come loose, their answer was to crank the can on using a wrench. I contacted YHM and sent in the adapter, per their instructions, and they told me "no problem found, must be user caused", so I sent the adapter and 2 muzzle devices in to them and they sent everything back along with one of their wrenches (which is cheap garbage). The adapter to muzzle device interface would consistently come loose after 10-15 rounds regardless of how hard I torqued the can onto either of the muzzle devices. I picked up a few YHM muzzle devices and one of their Omega adapters and have been unimpressed to say the least. I own an Omega with the ASR mount and have had no issues with it, but I wanted something that would allow mounting under a handguard and also a system that didn't require a locking ring. I'll concur with others who've said if the ASR works for you, no real compelling reason to switch. While technically it is superior, in practice the simpler, lighter, shorter, cheaper taper mounts are slowly multiplying. My Plan B/Cherry Bomb hasn’t found a permanent home and since I don’t recess cans into hand guards a Keymo Mount is mostly more weight, length, and money to fix a non-problem. I usually don’t leave cans mounted because of case length, and safe real estate space. Which has never happened so I don’t know how derelict I’d need to be to create that problem. The threads in front of the taper hasn’t been an issue if you dismount the can before carbon locks the threads. The DM ti tapermount sits a little more proud than the original Plan A but isn’t as long as the soon to be released Plan A XL. But they are seldom in stock and the thread to taper dimension can be off-spec compared to Griffin’s Plan A. My favorite alternate mount scheme is Diversified Machine’s titanium taper mounts for Griffin muzzle devices and ASR tube threading. Are there other things you guys can think of that I'm just not thinking of?Īnother option is Area 419 if you like their time-able muzzle brakes. Most rifle cans have some form of active retention that you have to interact with. I have to "lock a collar" on my Surefire cans as well as several other manufacturer's cans I have. I've yet to have any issues with my ASR's staying locked and I see it as no big deal to lock the collar. That's honestly the only real upside I'm seeing at this point. I do really like the thought of lightening and shortening the suppressors. I don't have any Q cans and my only Griffin can is an M4SDK so I gain no mount compatibility.

If I do anything it'll be Plan A or Plan B. Only two thread pitches available and just the Cherry Bomb brakeīased on all this there is zero reason for me to go with Key-Mo over ASR. Mounts and can interface are relatively inexpensive (mounts are a little more than ASR) (I've had my TB CB9 get pretty stuck on the taper brake on my bolt gun before) Potential for having the can stick on the mount. Limited options for mounts due to the depth available in the can Shorter than ASR and Keymo for total system length

Mounts and can interface are relatively inexpensive (mounts comparable to ASR cost) Simple on and off (put on mount and screw/unscrew) Length of the mount on the can (longer than the existing ASR)Įxpensive can interfaces and mounts (Everything is more expensive than the existing ASR) Weight (I think the system is heavier than the existing ASR) Simple on and off (put on mount and twist to lock/unlock)ĭecent mounts (I know it's just visual but I think they look better than the ASR mounts) Multiple operations to mount and dis-mount can (the locking collar) I already have them on two cans and several rifles (sunk cost) Simple on and off (just screw on/off and turn the locking collar)ĭecent mounts (especially with the new single port brakes) Here's what I see as the pros and cons of the different mounts: I keep trying to quantify a reason to replace the ASR mounts with something else but I keep coming up with "but why?". I've always had ASR mounts for these cans and have owned them for 4-ish years. I've got an Omega with ASR and an original Saker 762 with an ASR mount.
